Position Overview
The Safety Assistant is the entry rung of PowerSource's safety ladder. Working under the direct supervision of the Safety Compliance Coordinator, the Assistant handles the routine, high-volume tasks that keep the safety program's paperwork and supplies moving: toolbox talk sign-in sheets collected and filed, training records entered, PPE and first-aid stocks checked, job hazard analyses and permits gathered, and photos and notes captured on site audit walks. Basic issues are handled directly; anything involving judgment — a hazard, a record discrepancy, a crew member's concern — is referred to the Coordinator the same day. The role fits a beginning-to-working knowledge of construction safety: typically a high school diploma and 0 to 2 years of experience.
Safety First Always starts with people noticing things and writing them down. This rung is the front door to the safety track: it is where a Helper or apprentice with an eye for detail can step off the tools and into safety, and where a new hire learns the program from the paperwork up. The gate to Coordinator is owning the program's machinery — orientations, the training matrix, OSHA records — without being walked through each step, which is what the 90-day milestones below begin building evidence for.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Documentation & Records Support
- Collect toolbox talk sign-in sheets from crews and file them within one business day.
- Enter training records into the company training matrix accurately, and flag upcoming certification expirations to the Coordinator.
- Gather and file job hazard analyses, permits, and equipment inspection records to the filing standard.
- Scan, organize, and index audit and incident files as directed.
Site & Audit Support
- Accompany the Coordinator on site audit walks — carry the checklist, take photos, and record findings as directed.
- Deliver corrective-action reminders to crews as directed by the Coordinator (message delivery only — enforcement stays with the Coordinator and Officer).
- Check first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and eyewash stations against inventory lists and report deficiencies the same day.
Supplies & Logistics
- Keep PPE and safety supply stocks current across sites and the shop.
- Stage materials and set up orientation sessions and toolbox talks — sign-in sheets, handouts, and room setup.
- Report supply shortages before they become stoppages.
Learning & Growth
- Complete OSHA 10 within the first 30 days (company-sponsored) if not already held, and progress toward OSHA 30.
- Learn the program's procedures by shadowing the Coordinator on orientations, audits, and records work.
- Ask before acting on anything outside prior instruction — direct supervision means checking in.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Willingness to obtain OSHA 10 within the first 30 days of employment (company-sponsored), if not already held.
- Basic computer skills — spreadsheets and file management.
- Detail orientation and reliable follow-through on recordkeeping tasks.
- Clear written communication at a basic professional level.
- Able to walk active construction sites daily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to pass client site background and drug-free workplace requirements; reliable transportation to job sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Construction, field, or trade experience (helper, laborer, apprentice) — the pipeline this rung is built for.
- OSHA 10 already in hand.
- Bilingual English/Spanish — crews are best reached in their first language.
- Stated interest in a safety career.
Compensation: $42,640.00 - $47,000.00 per year
